MIMStudios collaborated with Vietzke & Borstelmann Architekten on a mixed-use masterplan design competition in Bratislava. The site is an extension of Bratislava’s Sky-Park, which features residential towers designed by Zaha Hadid Architects and an office tower by Vietzke & Borstelmann Architekten. Our goal was to develop a design that seamlessly extends the neighborhood in the best possible way.

Our shortlisted proposal aimed to enhance the urban landscape by integrating extensive greenery and outdoor amenities, creating a park-like environment within the dense city center. The urban development centers on optimizing space with varied-height point buildings tailored to specific functions. This approach maximizes daylight penetration for both interior spaces and surrounding areas, preserves important vistas—including those leading to the historic city center—and minimizes built-up areas to promote public space at ground level.

While our design echoes the aesthetic of the adjacent Sky-Park in its masterplan, it introduces unique architectural and landscape features to establish a distinct identity within the city. Extensive landscaping, including green spaces and water features, contributes to a dynamic interplay of vistas ranging from private to public. Each building’s identity is clearly expressed through innovative use of color and facade articulations, aiding in orientation and enhancing wayfinding, functionality, and access throughout the site.

Our strategic massing was carefully tailored to navigate the site’s constraints, ensuring ideal daylight orientation and privacy while enhancing the functionality of programs distributed across the site. By promoting a park-like setting with extensive greenery and outdoor amenities, our proposal emphasizes unique landscape and architectural qualities that support a vibrant urban environment.
